Florida’s year-round sun and warmth is what makes it the ideal getaway no matter what time of year you’re looking to get away. It also means virtually pristine weather and conditions, even for your fall and Halloween holiday. You’ll enjoy time on the beach, whether it’s a leisurely stroll on the beach or you’re setting up for a day of basking in the sun and working and your tan or water activities in the shimmering waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Don’t forget to check out the many local fall and Halloween events as part of your Florida fall fun.

Pumpkin Patch Opening

What better way to celebrate fall and Halloween in 30A than at a pumpkin patch opening? If you’re here in early October, you’ll be able to do just that. The patch at Camp Helen State Park opens to a festival full of fun like a straw maze, trail bingo, kayak and SUP rentals, scarecrow row and much more. After the opening, come back any day of the week to pick your pumpkin – all the way up to October 31, or until supplies run out. Visit the patch from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturdays for hay rides, games, contests, music, crafts, and more. Bring your blankets, chairs, and picnic and settle in on October 23 at 6:30 for a showing of Hocus Pocus. The movie starts at sunset and is free to the public. The grand opening festival is Saturday, October 2 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Witch Ride

The towns along scenic 30A can always be accessed by car, but a walk or bike ride is a fun way to see each locale and get a little exercise while you’re at it. Take part in the annual Witch Ride and put your pedals to work for a cause. The Witches of South Walton are hosting the events on Friday, October 29 and Saturday, October 30. Participate in the traditional Founders Ride from 7-8 a.m. or Bluewater Ride from 8-9 a.m. on October 29 with the Gathering Brunch to follow. Hop on your bike for the Sunset Ride from 5:30-6:15 p.m. or new Watersound Ride 5-6 p.m., also on October 29. Wrap up with the Goblin Ride on the 30th from 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. There will also be raffles, a silent auction, and a witch contest to determine which witch is the best. The ride benefits Healthy Happy Kids.

Destin Commons Halloween Haunt

Celebrate Halloween early with a spooky party at Destin Commons shopping center. The event features creepy crafts for the kids, fantasy Halloween face painting, trick-or-treating at participating stores, and a costume contest. Your furry friend is welcome too, so if they made the trip with you dress them in their Halloween best along with the kids. The party is Friday, October 29 from 6-8 p.m.

Trick-or-Treat This Halloween in 30A

On the spookiest night of all – October 31 – dress in your scariest Halloween costume and get ready to yell “trick-or-treat!” Communities along 30A are hosting trick-or-treat fun. Collect treats from 4-6 p.m. at Trick or Treat Seaside, or 6-7:45 p.m. at Trick or Treat Street at Baytowne Warf. Other communities have yet to announce trick or treat events and guidelines.

This event at Harborwalk Village is Halloween fun adult-style. Put on your spookiest costume and head to Harborwalk for the scariest pub-crawl you can imagine. The night features craft cocktails and good food from Village restaurants, live music, and an adult costume contest at Coyote Ugly to cap off the night. That said, there’s something special about a fall trip when the weather takes a turn for the milder and the crowds are a bit less intense. When you’re looking forward to making the most of every moment of your getaway, the following are just a few of our favorite fall activities on 30A to be sure to add to the must-try list!

Visit Fonville Park in Alys Beach

You may not encounter the vibrant changing leaves in 30A that you would elsewhere in the country this time of year, but you can expect milder weather which makes time at Fonville Park in Alys Beach that much more thrilling! Green spaces, and the beauty of nature are on full display for those who are looking forward to connecting with the great outdoors during a fall adventure this direction. In general, Fonville Park is recognized as one of the original Alys Beach parks, giving it some historical relevance that locals and visitors alike will love. If you’re visiting 30A with the entire family in tow, this is a great place to bring the kids who might have some excess energy to burn. It’s also well-suited to the adults who are looking forward to scenic surroundings. As a family, you’ll want to be sure to climb the central hill that the park hosts following the easy-to-navigate pathway. At the summit of the hill, you’re treated to a wonderful view of the town and coastal terrain below. It’s a fun place to take photos, relax, or unwind in style. An activity that’s perfectly suited for fall weather!

Have a Grayton Beach Bonfire

Year-round, Grayton Beach is a 30A favorite stop but there’s just something about that milder fall weather that makes it that much more appealing when you’re an autumn traveler. At Grayton Beach, time on the water is always a thrill but the fun can continue when the sun goes down if you think ahead and book a bonfire experience with the team at 30A Bonfires at the Beach. This group will help you get all set up for a bonfire at the location of your choosing. They’ll have the permit you need and the goodies you’ll count on to make it a s’mores and stars kind of fall evening. Gather your family and friends around the beach bonfire and enjoy a fall moment on 30A you won’t soon forget!

Fantastic Fishing Charters

Fall in Florida still offers up plenty of options for spending time in the great outdoors. For angling enthusiasts, this means that 30A is ideal for casting a line when you make your way here in autumn. If you’re an independent angler, there are plenty of opportunities to rent a vessel and hit the waves at your own pace. If you’re looking for a more guided experience, 30A Fishing Charters can always help. These professionals have everything you need to maximize your fishing fun and are ready and waiting with instructions if it’s your first time out. They’ll show you where to go to get a bite and point out other amazing sights along the way as well.

Sunsets in Seaside

Many travelers profess with passion that sunsets along 30A are more vivid in the fall season, and there’s a good chance they’re right—but you should definitely check it out for yourself! Pair two fun viewing options when you’re in the area by making Seaside your sunset viewing stop for a day. This charming town is designed around an architectural style known as New Urbanism. Here, visitors can walk along cobblestone streets past pastel-front homes complete with white picket fences. The coastline is dotted with delightful pavilions and it’s from one of these that the sunset can be enjoyed. Bring your camera and your sense of admiration and adventure. It promises to be a colorful moment.

Grab at Fall Coffee at Seaside Coffee Roasters Between Activities on 30A

While you might not have much of a chill along 30A this time of year, you can certainly find the flavor! Head over to Seaside Coffee Roasters on N. Holladay Drive in Seaside and take a seat within its charming and welcoming parameters. The beauty of a rainy day is something that most travelers overlook as they focus on all the things they cannot do, but during your time on 30A you will learn to look at things differently as you see things from our eyes. We take our time going places understanding the journey is just as important as the destination, sunsets are cause for celebration as we stop what we are doing to watch the fiery orb fall into the Gulf in a blaze of color, and when the skies darken and the clouds move in we adjust our plans, knowing the rainbows that come after will be worth the disruptions! This guide to rainy day activities on 30A will ensure that every minute of your Florida getaway spent in one of our I Love 30A rentals will be filled with memories you will never forget!

Explore Your Artistic Side With These Activities on 30A

Artists are drawn to the beauty of 30A and while you can fill your hours exploring the galleries filled with their masterpieces, why not take a couple of hours and create your own piece of art? Keep the beach close as you recreate the white sands and turquoise waters on a piece of canvas, but instead of using paint, pastels, or pen and ink, your material of choice will be pieces of glass! The Shard Shop, located at 26 Logan Lane in Santa Rosa Beach, is a mecca of colored glass, and when you gather round the communal table with new friends, a piece of canvas, and the pattern of your choice, the hardest part of the experience will be choosing the colors that will make your magical masterpiece come to life!

Discover Your Joy

Even as the rain falls, one of the greatest luxuries of the 30A lifestyle is a simple walk along the shore’s edge. Slip out of your flip flops, lift your face to the cool refreshing drops, and enjoy the adult version of jumping in mud puddles! As long as there is no lightning, a walk in the rain offers a peaceful joy that speaks to your heart and if you are accompanied by the love of your life as you wander along white sand beaches, the experience will be one that will remain etched in your soul forever.

Take Time for You

As we spend our lives taking care of others, we often forget the importance of taking care of ourselves, and perhaps Mother Nature is using the rain as a gentle nudge towards remembering. Taking time for you refreshes your soul and can be accomplished with a trip to one of the many Day Spas dotting the landscape of 30A! Dream Day Spa, 8406 Panama City Beach Parkway Suite A in Panama City Beach offers a variety of services all dedicated to making your day brighter, no matter how gloomy and gray it is outside! Choose any of their packages and walk out feeling as if you found the fountain of youth; Dream’s Deluxe Anti Aging Spa Day will pamper you from head to toe, but any of their services are bound to change your world!

Culinary Adventures

A good meal can brighten up even the darkest of days, and as you probably have already figured out, 30A is lined with restaurants that will make your taste buds stand up and take notice! 2021 has been good to the unusually named Shunk Gulley Oyster Bar, located at 1875 S County Highway 393, as they have just been awarded the Best Casual Dining award for the South Walton area! Offering seafood dishes you will dream about when you return to real life, a full bar where rum runners most often win popularity contests, and a patio that faces the sea, this spot is one of our favorites, even when we are forced to sit inside to stay out of the elements!

Read a Book

How long has it been since you have had the chance to sit down and read a book from cover to cover? Book lovers often carry their eBooks with them everywhere they go, snatching spare moments here and there to eagerly gobble up the words of their favorite authors, but reading a real book, with covers and pages and that indescribable smell of ink, has gone by the wayside. Sundog Books, 89 Central Square in Seaside, however, is determined to change all of that, offering a two-story building with covered patios on both levels where you can browse and read to your heart’s content! Lose yourself in the words written by the world’s greatest storytellers, surrounded by other book nerds as the rain falls, the thunder rolls, and lightning flashes all around. Life doesn’t get any better than this!

The Simple Pleasures

However you choose to fill the hours of this beautiful rainy day, spending your nights wrapped in the comforts found in your I Love 30A Florida sanctuary promises to offer the simple pleasures you will treasure forever! Reserve your stay today!

Florida’s year-round sun and warmth is what makes it the ideal getaway no matter what time of year you’re looking to get away. It also means virtually pristine weather and conditions for your 4th of July escape. You’ll enjoy patriotic activities as well as time on the beach, in the water, and wherever adventure takes you. Local Floridians know the best places to enjoy a fun-filled 4th of July break—they head to 30A, as you should as well!

Seaside Stars & Stripes Spectacular Fireworks

Once the last note from the pops concert that precedes it fades away, the town of Seaside lights up the sky over the Gulf of Mexico. The show starts at 9 p.m., directly after the concert. If you were at the concert, your seats near the Seaside Amphitheater are some of the best in the house. You can also choose to relax in the sand or dip your toes in the water while you watch from virtually anywhere on the beach in Seaside.

Destin Harbor July 4th Fireworks

While Destin shoots off fireworks all summer long on Thursday nights, the best show is sure to be on the 4th of July. Pack up your beach gear and your group and head to Destin Harbor to watch the show that is set off from West Jetties Beach. The 15-minute show is best viewed from Norriego Point or the boardwalk. Parking is limited, so you’re advised to arrive early to claim your spot. Catch a Thursday show set off between Harborwalk Village and West Jetties Beach.

Sandestin Hilton July 4th Fireworks

Keep your eyes on the Gulf of Mexico for this light extravaganza. The show is billed as the only one in the area to be set off directly on the Gulf of Mexico beach. The show lasts about ten minutes and is visible from anywhere on the surrounding beaches, and you can even get near the launch spot. The show starts at 9 p.m.</p.

Fort Walton Beach July 4th Fireworks

Another great spot for 4th of July fireworks is Fort Walton Beach. You can view the spectacular shower of light anywhere along the water downtown in Fort Walton Beach Landing to enjoy the show that celebrates the country. Fireworks are shot off from a barge over the Santa Rosa Sound starting at 8:45 p.m. on July 4th.

Village of Baytown Wharf 4th of July Fireworks

After you’ve spent some time at the town’s Red, White, and Baytowne celebration, turn your attention skyward. The Baytowne 4th of July Fireworks, set to a music soundtrack, are a patriotic end to the evening. The show is over the water between the Village and Baytowne Marina, and the soundtrack can be heard throughout the Village. Shorter shows take place on Tuesdays throughout the summer.

Red, White, and Baytowne

If you plan to spend some time at Baytowne Wharf, you’ll want to make sure to schedule it on the 4th. The Red, White, and Baytowne event includes live music, face painting, crafts, balloon sculpting, and much more. There are concerts on the main stage all day long for your enjoyment. The event is from 6 to 9:15 p.m.

Stars & Stripes Spectacular Concert

Head to Seaside for a pops concert presented by the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra on the Amphitheater stage. They’ll be playing some favorite patriotic songs, along with familiar tunes from some of the biggest films in history. Lawn seating is limited, so you’ll want to arrive early enough to claim your spot for the 7 p.m. show.

South Walton 4th of July Parade

Head to Seaside for plenty of patriotic fun. Starting at 8 a.m. on July 4th, South Walton hosts its Annual Independence Day parade along Scenic Highway 30A. The parade starts in Seagrove and ends at the Seaside Amphitheater. Stick around after the parade for an awards presentation, face painting, and more patriotic fun.

You’ll enjoy time on the beach, whether it’s a leisurely stroll or you’re setting up for a day of basking in the sun, working on your tan, and swimming in the shimmering waters of the Gulf of Mexico or another fun-in-the-sun activity. Floridians know the best attractions and activities along 30A to enjoy a fun-filled break that includes activities for young and old, on water or for land lovers.

Pirate Cruise

Join Captain “Fearless” Phil and the rest of his crew aboard the Sea Dragon for a swashbuckling good time! You’ll experience the sea as the pirates did on a two-hour cruise full of fun for the whole family. Keep your eyes peeled for sightings of dolphins, manatees, sting rays, and more while you listen to music and enjoy all of the pirate fun. Pirate booty including cold drinks, snacks, t-shirts, and more will be available on board during the event. Watch the kids marvel at learning to sword fight or read a treasure map. They’ll also enjoy face painting, pirate tattoos, and firing the “Kid Cannon,” in addition to many other activities that take place throughout the ship.

Fishing

This is one of the easiest and most fun activities for your whole group on a Florida getaway. Fishing is an activity that has no age or skill requirement to enjoy, and many fishing charter companies offer full-day or partial-day journeys. There are several experiences to choose from, including inshore, nearshore, and deep sea fishing. Some charter companies even take you to the flats, inlets, feeder creeks, bayous, and other hot spots for fly fishing. Young anglers are welcome, and many offer lessons for the first timers of the group. Cast a line in search of lunch or dinner in the form of redfish, tarpon, speckled trout, flounder, snapper, and more. Ask your chosen company about night fishing or add an extra thrill with shark fishing.

Snorkel and Scuba Tours

There are many companies along 30A that offer tours to extend your nature and wildlife viewing below the shimmering blue and green waters for the Gulf of Mexico. You’ll get close to bottlenose dolphins, sharks, manatees, rays, sea turtles and a variety of fish species as you explore the undersea world. Ask about daytime or sunset 30A tours, as well as gear rental for when you’ve built your confidence and want to strike out to the many great snorkel and scuba spots on your own.

Airboat Tour with 30A Airboat Adventures

Fly across the Florida waters on a one-of-a-kind airboat tour with 30A Airboat Adventures. Cut through the serene landscape and spot wildlife on the Choctawhatchee River, third-largest river in Florida, in terms of water volume discharged. Bring your camera, sun protection, and an extra layer or light jacket to combat the wind generated by the fan. The experience is family-friendly and there are no age limitations, but parents should consider the safety of their little ones before booking.

Coastal Biplane

The Coastal Biplane, better known as the Spirit of 30A, was built in 2010. Despite the modern build, it reflects the timeless look and feel of a classic 1930s biplane aircraft design. The Ferrari-red colored open cockpit of the Waco YMF-5 biplane seats the pilot and two side-by-side passengers – perfect for a romantic ride for you and your sweetest. See Fort Walton Beach and the surrounding area as the birds do. Opt for a short 20-minute cruise or choose one of their packages for more time in the sky. No matter which package you choose, you’re in for a thrill you’ll never forget.

Private Catamaran Cruise

There are plenty of ways to spend time in and on the water. For some private, romantic time on the water with your sweetheart, or a private cruise for you and your group without other riders, soak up the sun and enjoy of a private cruise. Embark on a daytime or sunset sail in a catamaran. You might even spot pelicans or other sea birds flying overhead, or bottlenose dolphins or manatees out for a swim. Ask about champagne or dining options aboard the vessel.

Winter seems to go on forever, in many places lasting through late spring, and as you wake up each morning preparing to face more gloom, wet, and cold, a couple of thoughts may be running through your mind. How long until Memorial Day, and which way to the beach? We at I Love 30A feel your pain and are here to offer some encouragement, because even though the kickoff to summer is still a few months away, NOW is the time to start making your plans and your reservations to stay in one of our sensational summer escapes for Memorial Day on 30A!

Designed for You

Everyone has their own ideas of what makes a vacation rental property a dream come true; some may wish for modern furnishings, high-end kitchens, and views that make them thankful, while others prefer a space built for families. Whatever your dream home away from home looks like, we at I Love 30A have the space that will make your Memorial Day getaway one you will never forget! Featuring kitchens that are the heart of the home, living areas with comfy furniture, state of the art televisions, and views of the Florida landscape that will take your breath away, every minute with us will be one you never want to end.

Sit on the balcony sipping wine and watching the sun sink into the Gulf, hang out by the community pool, gratefully perfecting your tan, (This winter has been SO cold!) or char your favorite meat on the barbecue grill that you may find in the community area of your vacation rental or right in the backyard, depending on which property you rented. At night when the moon is lighting the landscape with an ethereal glow, quiet walks on the white sands that frame turquoise seas will offer the memories you cherish most. Feel the warm waters of the Gulf splashing against your ankles before they recede back, allowing your toes to dig deep in the squishy sands, and let the sounds of the sea lull you into a peaceful state of mind. Finally, when your eyes grow heavy and you know that sleep won’t be far off, you can head back to your I Love 30A Memorial Day escape and slip between the silky soft sheets of our super comfortable beds for a night of sleep you never knew you were capable of!

All-American Activities for Memorial Day on 30A

Memorial Day is a holiday that makes us all proud to be Americans, and the fun you can have here will make this area your new happy place! Young families with toddlers can spend hours building sandcastles on the beach, wading in the warm waters, and napping under beach umbrellas as mom and dad take advantage of the quiet time to read the latest best sellers. Families with tweens may discover the beauty of road trips as they drive along 30A, stopping at the beaches along the way, or finding their way to Shipwreck Island Waterpark for hours of water slides, lazy rivers, and wave pools that mimic the sea without all those pesky sea creatures that can be scary when you aren’t expecting them. But what if you are traveling with teens? Everyone knows this age group can be sulky and poor tempered, especially when taken away from their friends, but we think we have a solution. A visit to Escape Room 60, located in Destin, can take you all away from their moods for at least an hour, longer if you succeed in escaping!

When the Lights Go Down

The fun that can be had in this area of the Gulf doesn’t end with the setting of the sun. The good times continue with visits to Redd’s in Blue Mountain Beach. Offering karaoke nights, live entertainment, specialty cocktails, and a menu filled with burgers, tacos, and barbecue, this sweet spot is a little different than most places found along 30A, primarily because there’s no seafood on the menu! Seeking a more traditional party spot during your 30A travels? The Edge, in Fort Walton Beach, is one of the more popular night spots in this region, staying open until 4 AM on Saturdays and 2 AM on all other nights, allowing guests to party until the sun comes up!

Back Home with I Love 30A

In the current climate, the fears over safety and sanitation can inhibit our going out choices, but when you choose I Love 30A for your vacation escape, staying home can be a party in itself as you barbecue, sing along to your favorite rock music, and feel at home in new spaces! Reserve your stay today and spend your Memorial Day remembering what it was like to travel freely once again!

Planning a getaway to the warmer climates of Florida with your sweetheart, or a couples’ getaway with friends is a fun and relaxing experience. Florida has plenty of romantic activities, water activities, and land-based activities to keep you occupied, but when it’s time to amp up the fun, let loose and maybe dance or enjoy everything the 30A night life has to offer, you need to know where to go to find the hottest spots along the scenic and historic route.

30A Night Life at The Red Bar

Destroyed during an early morning fire in 2019, The Red Bar of Grayton Beach re-opened its doors in July of 2020. The Grayton Beach hot spot offers food, drink, and music to keep patrons entertained and coming back day after day. Open for lunch and dinner, they offer delicious bites like seafood dishes, burgers, and baked eggplant to accompany their extensive bar selections including wine, liquor, and craft beers on tap. Groove to the sounds of live music from the Red Bar Jazz Band or a DJ with a playlist catering to music fans of all genres. Hours are 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. for lunch and 4:30-10 p.m. Entertainment varies by day, so check the schedule on their website. You’ll need a mask to get in the door and whenever you’re not at your table.

AJ’s Grayton Beach

AJ’s has three other locations to enjoy, but you’ll want to check out the Grayton Beach location. It’s their newest location and is just off 30A and boasts a cool, coastal cabana with comfortable seating both indoors and outdoors. Spend some time inside at any of the three bars or turn your attention to the two stages for nightly live music. They play host to various tournaments and events, too. Balance their drinks like biminis, daiquiris, mojitos, margaritas, local craft beers, and more with seafood, burgers, and vegetarian offerings. You’ll definitely want to spend some time here – AJ’s Grayton Beach was voted one of 30A’s Hottest Spots for Live Music. Open 11 a.m. – 12 a.m. daily. Please wear a mask to get in the door and when you’re not at your table.

Old Florida Fish House

The name Old Florida Fish House may not sound like a place to let loose and enjoy some 30A night life, but you’d be mistaken. The establishment offers great food and drink, with a rotating and seasonal menu that means no two visits will ever be the same. Sip on bottled beer or try a draft of some of Florida’s best. Try specialty cocktails like the Rosemary Beach Lemonade or Key West Martini. Entertainment includes live music, karaoke, open mic night comedy, and dueling pianos just to name a few. They’re open 11 a.m. – 10 p.m., with dinner served 4 p.m. – close. Please wear a mask to get in the door and whenever you’re not at your table.

The Hub

The Hub is aptly named, as it’s a hub for entertainment along 30A. There’s always something going on, from family game night to bingo to their DJ dance party, holiday themed activities for Valentine’s Day and other holidays, or live music. A collection of restaurants and businesses lining beautiful outdoor spaces, as well as a lawn for events, and a stage for live performances, there are a number of hot spots to hit while wandering this open-air shopping and entertainment hub. Try Florida favorites, including locally sourced fresh foods and tropical drink specials at restaurants. Each business at The Hub keeps its own hours, but the shopping and entertainment district is open daily from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. Please practice social distancing in public outdoor venues, and make sure to have your mask for entering shops and when you enter and move around inside restaurants.

Florida’s year-round sun and warmth is what makes it the ideal getaway no matter what time of year you’re looking to visit. Time on the beach, whether it’s a leisurely stroll on the sand or you’re setting up for a day of basking in the sun and working and your tan while the kids play in the water, is sure to help your family bond. Local Floridians know the best places to enjoy a family fun-filled break that includes 30A activities for young and old, on water or for land lovers.

Beaches

Whether your trip is just a few days or a couple weeks, you definitely want to make time to hang out at the beach. Pack the cooler and your beach gear and prepare for fun! On land or sea, there’s an activity for everyone. Sunbathe on the beach while the kids build sandcastles or take a walk. When the weather’s right, take a swim, or explore the underwater world with a mask and snorkel. Take a lesson or rent some gear for activities like stand up paddleboarding or kayaking. You can even gather the family for a horseback ride down the beach.

Pirate Cruise

Gather the family and experience the sea as the pirates did. You can join Captain “Fearless” Phil and his crew aboard the Sea Dragon for a swashbuckling good time! The two-hour cruise is fun for the whole family and includes sea life sightings, music, and unlimited pirate fun. There will be plenty of cold drinks, snacks, t-shirts, and other pirate booty available on board. Kids will love learning sword fighting, reading a treasure map, getting pirate tattoos, pirate face painting, and firing the “Kid Cannon” and the many other activities that will be taking place throughout the ship.

Fishing

One of the easiest and most fun activities for the family. Fishing has no age or skill requirement and can be a full-day or partial day activity. There are several experiences to choose from, including inshore, nearshore, and deep sea fishing. Some charter companies even take you to the flats, inlets, feeder creeks, bayous, and more for fly fishing. They also welcome young anglers and some offer lessons. Cast a line in search of lunch or dinner in the form of redfish, tarpon, speckled trout, flounder, snapper, and more.

Escape Rooms

As one of the most popular activities in the last several years, escape room facilities are popping up everywhere. Rooms are rated by difficulty and even come with age suggestions, so you can choose the right adventure for your family. Escape Zone 60 has three rooms: Death Row, Navy SEALs, and Castle Escape. Your family has 60 minutes to solve all the clues and break out to win.

Gator Beach 30A Activities

If you run into a gator on the beach, you’ll probably want to turn around and walk briskly the other way. At Gator Beach, located inside Fudpucker’s Beachside Bar & Grill in Destin, the park is open from 11 a.m. to just before closing (hours vary by season). Another family-friendly perk: free admission. You can walk around, ask questions, and attend an alligator show. Feed the gators, get your picture taken holding a live gator, or browse through the Crocodilia Discovery Zone – an area with exhibits and displays which includes 3D underwater scene of an alligator habitat. Guests seven-years-old and older can also book a private, ‘behind the scenes’ experience with professional gator handler.

Kitchenique

For a different way to spend some time indoors with the family, try a cooking class. Kitchenique Cooking School offers cooking classes taught by some of the best local chefs. Sharpen your home chef skills or learn new recipes. They even offer hands-on lessons for the kids.

Emerald Coast Science Center

Fun and educational for the whole family any time of year. There are indoor and outdoor exhibits, like interactive robotic units, engineering, physics, electricity, color, light, sound, and so more. Learn about space, the Emerald Coast ecosystem, conduct an experiment in the lab or make a creation in the makerspace. Step outside to the marine exhibit – an exhibit in a boat that shows you just what it takes to keep a craft afloat, how radio communication is possible, and the engineering behind boat building. Stay outside and stop by the Dino Dig Pit to discover something of mammoth proportions.

Florida’s year-round sun and warmth is what makes it the ideal getaway no matter what time of year you’re looking to get away. You’ll want to make time to take a stroll on the beach or bask in the sun and work and your tan with some 30A activities. For some, the water temperatures of 57 to 64 degrees might be a bit too cool for a dip in the Gulf of Mexico. Local Floridians know the best places to enjoy a winter break without getting in the water along 30A.

Fishing

The angler of the group will enjoy fishing year-round. There are plenty of companies along 30A offering fly, inshore, nearshore, and offshore, and deep sea fishing excursions. Don’t worry about packing your own gear. Most companies include all the gear, bait, and tackle needed for the half-day or full-day experience. Depending on where you’re headed, plan to bring home snapper, Mahi-Mahi, king mackerel, redfish, trout, and more for your next meal. For a more unique experience, ask about night time fishing.

Winter Solstice Run

Plan your getaway around the winter solstice and pack your running or walking shoes. This all-day “ultra-run” starts at sunrise at the westernmost point along Scenic 30 in Rosemary Beach and continues for 40 miles along beaches, around lakes, and even through the forests until sunset. If the sun and activity of running or walking isn’t enough to keep you warm, the day is sponsored by Amavida Coffee Roasters, and they provide their warmest beverage to keep you warm and fueled for the duration of the journey.

Hiking

Pack your hiking boots and set out on foot! The 30A area is dotted with state parks and hiking trails. You’ll be able to explore to your heart’s content, since the sun isn’t as intense during the winter months, making it perfect weather for a day on the trails. While you’re out in the wild, keep a lookout for local wildlife, including black bear, coyotes, deer, and osprey, to name a few.

Dining

If you’re hungry after the hike or looking to take a break and let someone else handle the cooking for a change, look no further than the many culinary selections 30A has to offer. Go for a taste of Havana, local seafood, American fare and much more. Take your taste buds along on your journey to fun and excitement along 30A. Ask about children’s menus, gluten free, vegan, or vegetarian offerings.

Indoor Fun With These 30A Activities

If the weather is a bit cool for you, or you’d rather stay out of the sun for a while, consider the many offerings along 30A for indoor fun. Visit the Man of the Sea Museum or be amazed at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not. Get competitive and head to Rockit Lanes in search of the perfect 300 score. Get lost, compete at laser tag with your group, or test your spy skills with the laser challenge at Emerald Coast Mirror Maze. You can also check the schedule to see if the Seaside Repertory Theatre is holding performances in their 75-seat theatre or roaming the surrounding area with street performances.

Kitchenique

The chef of the group may want to learn some new skills or recipes to try out during vacation or take home to their own kitchen. Kitchenique Cooking School offers cooking classes taught by some of the best local chefs. Beginners and seasoned home cooks alike will enjoy a fun and informative class. Get your youngest vacationers involved with a hands-on lesson designed just for them.

30A Songwriters Festival

If you’re planning your trip with a music lover, consider scheduling it in January. The annual 30A Songwriters Festival takes place. Experience the tunes of local up-and-coming or established music artists with over 300 performances by more than 100 songwriters. The weekend festival is also a fundraiser for the area nonprofit Cultural Arts Alliance, which helps enhance the area’s musical and creative excellence.

South Walton Fashion Week

While your music fanatic may want to schedule the break in January, your fashionista will try to convince the group to come in February. That’s when the annual South Walton Fashion Week takes place. The week features high fashion by national, local, and regional designers, stores, and boutiques. Attend a runway or trunk show, enjoy retail shopping experiences or parties. The event is presented by Visit South Walton and produced by the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County (CAA), with proceeds benefiting the CAA.
