Florida’s year-round sun and warmth is what makes it the ideal getaway no matter what time of year you’re looking to visit. Time on the beach, whether it’s a leisurely stroll on the sand or you’re setting up for a day of basking in the sun and working and your tan while the kids play in the water, is sure to help your family bond. Local Floridians know the best places to enjoy a family fun-filled break that includes 30A activities for young and old, on water or for land lovers.

Beaches

Whether your trip is just a few days or a couple weeks, you definitely want to make time to hang out at the beach. Pack the cooler and your beach gear and prepare for fun! On land or sea, there’s an activity for everyone. Sunbathe on the beach while the kids build sandcastles or take a walk. When the weather’s right, take a swim, or explore the underwater world with a mask and snorkel. Take a lesson or rent some gear for activities like stand up paddleboarding or kayaking. You can even gather the family for a horseback ride down the beach.

Pirate Cruise

Gather the family and experience the sea as the pirates did. You can join Captain “Fearless” Phil and his crew aboard the Sea Dragon for a swashbuckling good time! The two-hour cruise is fun for the whole family and includes sea life sightings, music, and unlimited pirate fun. There will be plenty of cold drinks, snacks, t-shirts, and other pirate booty available on board. Kids will love learning sword fighting, reading a treasure map, getting pirate tattoos, pirate face painting, and firing the “Kid Cannon” and the many other activities that will be taking place throughout the ship.

Fishing

One of the easiest and most fun activities for the family. Fishing has no age or skill requirement and can be a full-day or partial day activity. There are several experiences to choose from, including inshore, nearshore, and deep sea fishing. Some charter companies even take you to the flats, inlets, feeder creeks, bayous, and more for fly fishing. They also welcome young anglers and some offer lessons. Cast a line in search of lunch or dinner in the form of redfish, tarpon, speckled trout, flounder, snapper, and more.

Escape Rooms

As one of the most popular activities in the last several years, escape room facilities are popping up everywhere. Rooms are rated by difficulty and even come with age suggestions, so you can choose the right adventure for your family. Escape Zone 60 has three rooms: Death Row, Navy SEALs, and Castle Escape. Your family has 60 minutes to solve all the clues and break out to win.

Gator Beach 30A Activities

If you run into a gator on the beach, you’ll probably want to turn around and walk briskly the other way. At Gator Beach, located inside Fudpucker’s Beachside Bar & Grill in Destin, the park is open from 11 a.m. to just before closing (hours vary by season). Another family-friendly perk: free admission. You can walk around, ask questions, and attend an alligator show. Feed the gators, get your picture taken holding a live gator, or browse through the Crocodilia Discovery Zone – an area with exhibits and displays which includes 3D underwater scene of an alligator habitat. Guests seven-years-old and older can also book a private, ‘behind the scenes’ experience with professional gator handler.

Kitchenique

For a different way to spend some time indoors with the family, try a cooking class. Kitchenique Cooking School offers cooking classes taught by some of the best local chefs. Sharpen your home chef skills or learn new recipes. They even offer hands-on lessons for the kids.

Emerald Coast Science Center

Fun and educational for the whole family any time of year. There are indoor and outdoor exhibits, like interactive robotic units, engineering, physics, electricity, color, light, sound, and so more. Learn about space, the Emerald Coast ecosystem, conduct an experiment in the lab or make a creation in the makerspace. Step outside to the marine exhibit – an exhibit in a boat that shows you just what it takes to keep a craft afloat, how radio communication is possible, and the engineering behind boat building. Stay outside and stop by the Dino Dig Pit to discover something of mammoth proportions.
